Flower Swords
For Kelsey’s birthday I took Samuel and Isaac with me to get some flowers. I let the boys each pick a flower for her. Samuel picked a bright-orange, gerber daisy and Isaac picked a red, long-stemmed rose. Once we got home the boys gave their flowers to Kelsey and she wanted to take some pictures of them with their selections. The pictures were going pretty good until the boys began to use the flowers as swords!

Be Careful Who You Sit Next to on the Plane
As much as none of us want to admit, the person sitting next to you on a plane does help determine your overall enjoyment of that portion of your trip. And when you’re traveling with kids, that’s multiplied. Case in point, we were traveling back from seeing my family in Mississippi and were on a smaller plane with two seats on each side of the center aisle. I was sitting next to Samuel, and Kelsey was across the aisle sitting next to Isaac. Everything on my side of the plane was going pretty smooth. Samuel and I were playing Angry Birds on the iPad and having a very enjoyable time. Across the aisle, things seemed to be going pretty good too, at least from my perspective. -Until the incident. I’m not sure how it happened; I was probably preoccupied with Angry Birds, but I looked over to see Kelsey not very happy. She then took off her shoe and poured apple juice, from her shoe, back into an empty cup. That’s when I realized Isaac had spilled enough apple juice on Kelsey that it actually pooled into her shoe! Needless to say, be careful who you sit next to on a plane.

Isaac’s First Dentist Visit
Isaac had his first visit with the dentist. We worried that it might be a traumatic experience, but he did amazingly. He let them look at his teeth, take x-rays, and even got a fluoride treatment. I think the two things that helped more than anything was Isaac watching Samuel go first and then using an iPad for distractions while he was waiting.

“Momma, drive safe. Don’t run into any cars”
Kelsey had to go to a church meeting and the boys wanted to tell her bye. After Samuel said goodbye he finished with, “Momma, drive safe. Don’t run into any cars.” I’m starting to wonder about how Kelsey drives when I’m not around.

“No, I’m not going to take a nap, you fool.”
Kelsey sent me a text about getting the boys down for a nap today. I guess Samuel told her, “No, I’m not going to take a nap, you fool.” We think he got it from Disney’s, “The Emperor’s New Groove.” -The wonderful influence of movies on the language of children.

“Broke” Tire
For the last few days it seemed like the front-end of my truck was starting to feel looser than normal. Thinking it wasn’t a major issue, I figured I would look at it over the weekend. However, my truck didn’t make it to the weekend. Actually it didn’t make it more than a mile from the house when it came to a grinding halt at the gas station. As you can tell from the picture, I wasn’t going any farther. I always said that I would probably end up driving my truck until the tires fell off, and one literally did.
After it broke down I called Kelsey to pick me up. She got the boys loaded into the van and told them about what happened to the truck as they drove to get me. The following conversation ensued.
Isaac: “Daddy broke tire. Daddy crying.”
Samuel: “No Isaac. Daddy’s not crying.”
I guess Isaac figured a broken tire was something worthy of crying over.

The Perfect Line for Breaking the Ice
For preschool show and tell, Samuel took a snowman ornament to show the other kids. When Kelsey asked Samuel if he showed the snowman to the other kids, she said he told them, “Hey girls, wanna see a snowman?!” Now that’s a line to break the ice with girls. Why didn’t I think of it when I was in college?

New Year’s Eve 2012
We decided to go to Temple Square to see the lights. The boys seemed to enjoy it. But by the end, I think cold had gotten the better of all of us.
Miserable attempt at a family picture with me holding the camera. But everyone was happy for that moment.
Other pictures from the fun.
The Second Best Thing About Christmas in Mississippi
The best thing about spending Christmas in Mississippi is being with family, but this video shows a close second.
